I don't even know if this should go here or anywhere for that matter . . . My 13yo son Sean, whistles very Loudly & a lot... he doesn't do it at school 'cause I asked him. He has not been DX with any LD/ADD or anything. I don't remember if I did this AS MUCH at/around his age or not . . . Am I whistling in the dark here, or whistling in the wind . . . PS There was nothing about it in www.about.

My Dad and my oldest brother were both whistlers. They did it a lot and when they were happy. So I say it is a good thing. I vote you are whistling in the wind.

John...If the whistling is super-annoying to you, maybe you can ask him to limit it to certain times. Otherwise, I say be happy hes not whining or screaming or sassing. At least whistling is a happy noise!

Hmmm, a certain time you say . . . ya' like when I'm NOT AROUND ~ LOL Seriously now folks, maybe I'm just 'over-reacting', he is a very laid back, easy going and friendly kid. Maybe he just likes to whistle 'cus he know's his sister can't !

John, Are you talking whistling tunes or just whistling like you'd blow a whistle?? Does he seem aware he is doing it or is it just when he is doing things? I ask because if he doesn't seem even aware he is doing it then I don't think it is a big deal...maybe annoying but nothing to be concerned about, however, you may have to make him aware he is bugging you by mentioning it to him. But if you think he really is doing it because his sister can't then I'd say put a stop to it in my opinion.
Remember that other thread when we were talking about kids that make animal noises over and over again. With my niece it was impossible to make her stop. The more you asked her to stop the more she'd giggle and do it some more. Maybe this is your sons "thing". I don't know.

I remember as a kid having the guy who did the whistling in the lead in to the Andy Griffith show come to our school. He made quite a good living whistling John. The royalties alone from that show must have added up to a bundle. Maybe you should encourage your son!

Double J, he's whistling tunes, which in and of it self is not annoying, but it's SO LOUD. We switched him from Spanish which he was doing Terrible in to Choir which he Loves. Now he's coming home singing which is MUCH Better- LOL Sometimes we'll whistle together, which is fun to do, but then I'll break out laughing . . . have you ever tried smiling/laughing while your whistling . . . Not Easy !

Not Easy ! He just sounds like a happy kid. Buy earplugs or perhaps there is a silencer muffle you could put on him. You can't whistle if your laughing. I've had various kids ask me to either teach them to whistle or ask if I could whistle and I could never show them because I'd end up laughing.

My daughter went through a phase where she used to hum and it drove the kids in school that sat around her crazy. I think in her case it was a nervous thing that gave her comfort. She did eventually stop doing it and your son will probably eventually stop on his own. You may need some earplugs for a while if it gets too loud, LOL, but the main thing is that he is happy.

Oh my goodness! Tonight Shannon became so SILLY. Bill was in our room watching a movie & I was in the bathroom shaving my legs. Shannon was in the living room reading something about a chicken & out of the blue decided to BRAWWWK at the top of her lungs for like 10 minutes or more. Of course she was laughing like a fool while she was doing it.
so heres what we did. I told my husband to follow me down the steps & we both made our arms like wings & BRAWWWKED our way down the stairs! SHE LOVED IT! We were all laughing so hard we could barely breathe! It was much better than yelling at her for it!
If you can't beat'em, JOIN 'em!

I love what you and your hubby did too! My fondest memories are of moments like that with my Mom & Dad. I bet when Shannon did that big ole squawk it cracked you both up. Hee, hee...too funny.

If you can't beat'em, JOIN 'em! This sounds like an excellent solution to me !! ... Get practicing on that whistling John!! Seriously though I do agree with everyone else ... whistling is a happy thing .... and as long as its a happy go-lucky whistling and not a high pitched "out to annoy" whistle then I would live with it ...

Dawn, I'm just LOL thinking about yoU & Bill doing your 'Chicken routine' ! 'Cool'Kat ~ Are you guys IRISH ? Sean is the Irish version of John . . . I thought it would be presumptuous to name my son after me, so this was a good compromise.
