i'm starting a topic on what your favorite spring activity is and how it could be used to teach any "academic" concepts such as plant/animal life (science), math (measurement, cooking, number concepts ect), writing, and so on. i'll start the ball rolling with a project i'm working on with patio blocks for flower beds. (measurement, multiplication ect) he'll need to measure the length, determine the height and then calculate how many bricks we'll need. he'll also figure out the cost of the project, with tax! next?!

My favorite springtime activity is sitting on the porch, reading and enjoying not being cooped up in the house. Not much planning there.
I do need to have gravel put in our parking area. My son could do the measuring and calculate how much we need to cover the area and then figure the cost.
What a good idea kppy!

Our favorite springtime activity is starting our vegetable garden. You could easily turn gardening into a lesson. Science-talk about how things grow, figuring out recipes to use once your veggies are grown, etc..theres lots of potential there. Math-figuring out how many of each plant you need, how much space is needed to grow them all, how much mulch, manure, & fertilizer you need. Even social studies-If you plant corn you can talk about the American Indians & how they used "Maize". If you plant potatoes, you can talk about the Irish & the potatoe famine.]
I'm sure you can think of tons more lessons you can incorporate!
